H.264 is a high-performance video codec technology.
At present, there are two organizations that make video codecs in the world:
One is "ITU-T" standard with H.261, H.263, H.263 + and so on.
The other is the "ISO" standard MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and so on. H.264 is a new digital video coding standard jointly developed by Joint Video Team (JVT) jointly organized by two organizations. Therefore, H.264 is both ITU-T H.264 and ISO / IEC MPEG-4 Advanced Video Advanced Video Coding (AVC), and it will become Part 10 of the MPEG-4 standard. Therefore, both MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 Part 10, and ISO / IEC 14496-10 refer to H.264.
The biggest advantage of H.264 is its high data compression ratio, which is more than twice that of MPEG-2 and 1.5 to 2 times that of MPEG-4 under the same image quality.
For example, if the size of the original file is 88 GB, it will be 3.5 GB compressed using the MPEG-2 compression standard, the compression ratio will be 25: 1, and the H.264 compression standard will be 879 MB compressed from 88 GB to 879 MB, H.264 compression ratio reached a staggering 102: 1!
H.264 why so high compression ratio? Low Bit Rate plays an important role. Compared with compression technologies such as MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 ASP, H.264 compression technology will greatly save user's download time and data traffic charge.
